Support Worker

Apply as a Support Worker

Responsible to: Registered Manager / Senior Staff

Purpose of the Role

 

To provide high-quality care and support for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, epilepsy, mental health needs and complex conditions in our Residential, Respite and Day services. Support Workers play a vital role in promoting independence, dignity, choice and wellbeing, while safeguarding individuals and ensuring they enjoy a positive, fulfilling experience at Alexandra House.

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Provide both practical and personal support, enabling individuals to develop skills for greater independence.

  • Support daily living, including personal care, dressing, and mealtime support.

  • Assist with transitional skills such as budgeting, road safety, meal preparation and shopping.

  • Administer medication (following training and policy).

  • Promote positive activities within the home and community, supporting individuals to access leisure and social opportunities.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment, promoting good hygiene and wellbeing.

  • Safeguard all service users from potential or actual harm and follow Health & Safety policies.

  • Encourage and support each individual to express their choices, preferences and aspirations.

  • Work effectively as part of a team, contributing to staff meetings, training and development.

  • Keep accurate records, reports and documentation as required.

Domiciliary Support Worker

Apply as a Domiciliary Support Worker

Responsible to: Domiciliary Care Manager / Registered Manager

Purpose of the Role

 

To provide flexible, high-quality support to adults living in their own homes across the community. While much of this work focuses on older adults, support is also provided for individuals with learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy, physical disabilities and complex needs. Care may range from one-hour visits to 24/7 live-in arrangements.

​

Please note: This role requires applicants to be drivers with access to their own vehicle for work use. Mileage is reimbursed in line with company policy.

​

Key Responsibilities

​

  • Provide person-centred care and support in clients’ own homes.

  • Assist with personal care tasks such as washing, dressing, toileting and medication prompts.

  • Support with household tasks including meal preparation, laundry, cleaning and shopping.

  • Escort clients to medical appointments, social activities and community services.

  • Offer companionship and emotional support to reduce isolation and promote wellbeing.

  • Provide overnight care (sleep-in or waking night) when required.

  • Keep accurate records of visits, care provided and any changes in needs or circumstances.

  • Work closely with families and professionals to ensure care packages are safe, effective and adaptable.

  • Safeguard clients and uphold their dignity, independence and rights at all times.

Person Specification

​

  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle for work use.

  • A caring, respectful and professional nature.

  • Ability to work independently and manage travel between calls.

  • Good communication and organisational skills.

  • Flexible and reliable, with availability for mornings, evenings and weekends.

  • Experience in care is desirable, but full training will be provided.
