Our Domiciliary Service enables adults aged 18 and over to remain independent in the comfort of their own homes, while receiving the support they need to live safely and with dignity. Much of our work focuses on supporting older adults, but we also provide tailored care for individuals with learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and complex needs. Support can range from short, flexible visits of just one hour per week, through to 24/7 live-in care, depending on the needs and preferences of the individual.
We understand that choosing care at home can be a very personal decision. That is why we take the time to get to know each individual and their family before support begins, so we can carefully match them with the right support worker. Considerations such as gender, language, culture and personality are always taken into account to build trust and ensure that care feels natural, consistent and comfortable.
Our Approach
At Alexandra House, our aim is to provide care that promotes independence and wellbeing while respecting each person’s dignity and preferences. For older people, this may mean support with daily routines that help them continue to live at home safely. For adults with learning disabilities or complex conditions, it could involve one-to-one support in the community, opportunities to build skills, or assistance to access appointments and leisure activities.
Before a package commences, a Manager or Senior staff member will usually carry out a preliminary visit to the home. This visit is an opportunity to meet, discuss needs, provide information about our services, and explain the process of care starting. It also allows us to assess the home environment and ensure the right support is in place. In rare circumstances — such as urgent hospital discharges or emergencies — we may begin support before this step, with the assessment completed as soon as possible afterwards.
Each care package is bespoke and developed in partnership with the individual, their family and professionals involved in their support. Every person is offered a key worker, giving them continuity, encouragement and a familiar face at each visit.
